39. Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. The Demographic Survey in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, District Report Series (No. 4) - Jerusalem District. Ramallah: PCBS, 1996: 113 pp.
In Arabic and English. Data is presented pertaining to the Jerusalem District from the demographic survey in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The survey was conducted in 1995 in PCBS. The non-response was as high as 14%, compared with only 1.7% for the entire survey. The average household size was 5.7 persons compared with 6.7 for the Remaining West Bank (RWB). Access to tap water and public sewage was also significantly higher compared with the RWB. The fertility rate was estimated at 3.95, a significantly lower rate than the 5.61 figure for the RWB. Interestingly, the infant mortality rate was estimated at 31 per thousand live births, which is markedly higher than the 25 estimate for the RWB. This fact should be considered in light of the supposed higher living standards and accessibility to health and social services in the Jerusalem area.
