Physicians for Human Rights–Israel has compiled this brief report on violations of the human right to health and bodily integrity. This report deals mainly with the types of injuries inflicted, with delays in evacuation of the wounded, and in medical care for the detainees arrested during clashes between police, border-police, YASAM (Special Reconnaissance Units) and Arab citizens which took place in October 2000, with structural discrimination against Arab medical relief organizations and hospitals, and with violations of the autonomy of medical institutions. The security forces involved made massive use of live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets and “rubber bullets” causing serious physical and mental damage. With the exception of tear-gas, no relatively less violent means seem to have been used in dispersing the demonstrations
