20. 'Abdeen, Z. Palestinian Health Strategy - The Challenges Ahead. Jerusalem: Sustainable Human Development Project, 1997: 23 pp.

According to the author, this monograph attempts to present an approach to "a long-term national health policy" that advocates a balanced framework for strategic planning, operational practice and management. A number of demographic, vital and service statistics are listed, with no reference to their sources. The author recommends focusing on improving the existing health services before embarking on any expansion. Other recommendations include enhancing management, intersectoral cooperation and reducing the costly dependency on medical specialization. The author concludes that it is vital to lower the current birth rate in order to avoid deterioration in health service provision. Sources of most tables in the appendix are not specified. It is rather unclear how these tables are supposed to support the paper’s conclusions.
