This report highlights the progress and achievements made during the first year of a health education project. Aiming to introduce health education in elementary schools by training teachers and nurses, preparing educational materials, and organizing the provision of school-based activities, the three-year project was launched in 1994 by the Palestinian Ministry of Health with the collaborative efforts of other international organizations. A description of the project's goals and objectives is provided, including the degree of implementation of each. The report mentions the two major achievements of the first year: 1) the training of 105 health educators, and 2) the establishment of Health Committees in 100 government elementary schools. Appendices include the original implementation timetable, a curriculum of training course for teachers, a research/evaluation design and a valuable literature review on school health education.
