A total of 22,970 stool specimens collected from patients attending the Central Medical Laboratory in the city of Nablus between 1981 and 1986 were examined. Thirty-two percent were positive for one or more intestinal parasite including 22.9% Entamoeba histolytica, 7.3% Giardia lamblia and 5.7% Ascaris lumbricoides. Based on an apparent seasonal pattern in the number of positive cases, it is suggested that parasitic incidence is higher in summer than in winter. The possibility of seasonal patterns in reporting to the lab is not discussed.
