The prevalence rate of tetanus in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has significantly decrease over the past years from 2/100,000 in the 1950s to just five cases in the whole area in 1988 as a result of the vaccination program and the increasing percentage of hospital deliveries. However the disease is still persistent in the area. Thus, the authors suggest a review of the Israeli immunization policy with particular emphasis on high risk groups like Bedouins, women of child-bearing age and the elderly population.
