31. Abu Sha'ban, D.S. Coronary Heart Disease Risk Factors Among Gaza School Children. An MPH Dissertation, Hebrew University - Hadassah School of Public Health and Community Medicine, 109 pp. [Undated]
The paper attempts to measure certain risk factors of coronary heart disease among school children in the Gaza Strip within the theoretical framework that the presence of certain risk factors can be ascertained early in life. Total serum cholesterol (TCH), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), height, weight, arm circumference and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were the investigated variables.
For most of the investigated variables, there was an association with age and sex. No association with locality of residence (rural / urban) was detected. Similar association of body mass index (BMI) and arm circumference with cholesterol levels was detected for both sexes. An association of BMI and arm circumference with HDL-C was detected only in boys. An association between serum cholesterol and HDC-C and cigarette smoking was detected but was not statistically significant.
