In 1983 there was an epidemic amongst West Bank schoolgirls characterized by headache, dizziness, vomiting, blurred vision, abdominal pain, fainting and other symptoms, affecting 943 cases. An epidemiological study failed to establish the cause and concluded that the epidemic was induced by anxiety.
