62.El Sharif N, Douwes J, Hoet P. H. M, Doekes G, Nemery B.  Concentrations of domestic mite and pet allergens and endotoxin in Palestine.  Allergy 2004: 59: 623631.

A case control study was conducted to assess the concentration of dust allergens and endotoxin in Palestinian homes.  132 children from 120 homes were randomly selected; 44 children from each housing characteristic (urban, rural, and refugee camps) with 22 as cases for wheezing and 22 as controls.  Two dust samples from child mattress and living room floor were collected from 110 of the 120 selected homes; households were told not to wipe dust three days before samples collection.  Dust samples were analysized using ELISA for allergens Dep p1, Der f1, Fel d1, and Can f1.  Endotoxins were analyzed using kinetic Limilus amebocyte lysate essay.  Der p1 is the allergen found in the highest concentration in Palestinian homes.  The types of allergen found differed between each housing characteristic.  The difference between the presence of certain allergen while the absence of others could be attributed to different socioeconomic conditions.
