11. Palestinian Ministry of Health Prevalence of Rickets among children age 9-18 months In Gaza Strip–Palestine. Gaza: Palestinian National Authority, 1997: 10pp.

The objectives of this study are to estimate the prevalence of rickets and to determine factors contributed to its occurrence. The results showed that: the prevalence of rickets was 12.5%, with variations among the Governmental (18.6%) and UNRWA (9.7%) mother and child care centers. There was a strong negative association between rickets and exposure to sun, early sitting, crawling, standing, and walking had negative association with rickets. The study shows that there is high prevalence of rickets among children in the Gaza District, and it can be prevented by health education and promotion of Vitamin A & D supplementation.
