This article discusses the results of a study of cases of neonatal sepsis admitted to neonatal intensive care unit at Makassed Hospital throughout the year 1993. Neonatal sepsis affected 10.5% of all patients admitted to the unit. Prematurity, low birth weight and respiratory distress were major risk factors for this condition. Mortality from sepsis reached 33% of the cases. The bacteriologic etiology of sepsis seemed to be changing from entirely gram negative organisms to gram positive organisms.
