Mothers in Biddu were administered a questionnaire and given extended interviews to determine the prevalence and risk factors of congenital hip dislocation in children aged 0-3 years. The total sample consisted of the village's children (n=262). Of this sample, 157 children were swaddled (60%). A total of 19 children had congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH), indicating a prevalence of 75 per 1000. Based on these results, the author concludes that swaddling is a primary factor contributing to CDH.
