This report provides preliminary estimates on energy and food composition in the Palestinian Territory (West Bank and Gaza Strip). The report sheds light on estimates for daily average energy and nutrient available per capita in the Palestinian society for 1996-1998. The food consumption table covering the Near East region (World Food Organization, Food Consumption Tables for the Near East Region) and the Arab Republic of Egypt were used in this survey. The main findings of the survey showed that the daily average share of energy in the West Bank (2227 kcal) is higher than that of Gaza (1913 kcal) and so are the shares of most of the other nutrients: protein, fat, carbohydrate, water, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin A. As for vitamin C the share of Gaza is a bit higher than that of the West Bank.
