18. Moughrabi, F. A Nation at Risk: The Impact of Violence on Palestinian Children Ramallah: Qattan Center for Educational Research and Development, 2001: 12 pp.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has taken a turn for the worse as the level of Israeli violence increased substantially and as Palestinian civilians are now directly targeted. After nearly eight months of an uprising, Palestinian society is at risk- there is a threat of general collapse of the fragile socio-economic institutions created in the post-Oslo period. This essay reviews the existing literature on the psychological impact of war on children. It also examines the case of children in Palestine by assessing what has already been done to respond to their needs and suggesting what needs to be done. At the end, this essay formulates a number of key recommendations for intervention addressed to local Palestinian governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as international agencies.
