51. El Sarraj, E., Abu Tawahina, A., Abu Hein, F. The Palestinians: A Story of Uprooting. Presented to the First International Conference on the Mental Health and Psychological Well being of Refugees and Displaced Persons, Sweden, 1991: 27 pp.
The story of uprooting the Palestinians and its effects on their mental health is presented. As a result of Palestinian suffering, various psychopathological conditions spread among people including depression, anxiety, drug abuse, the increase of physical and verbal forms of violence and antisocial behavior as well as woman and child abuse. The Intifada restored a positive self-image, high self- esteem and national pride. However, four years later, feelings of frustration and anxiety re-emerged.
