8. Kaileh, M. Report of a Study In the West Bank on Anemia among Pregnant Women: Follow Up Study. Jerusalem: UNRWA, 2002: 26pp.
This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among pregnant women and other maternal health care issues as gestational age at registration, number of antenatal visits, risk status, place of delivery during the current hardship situation. The study shows that the overall prevalence of anemia in 1999 was 35.5% and in 2001 49.8% with the only reasonable explanation is the deteriorating socio-economical status that women are suffering from the current situation. The study also shows that there is a progressive rise in the prevalence of anemia during the course of pregnancy, which indicates that iron intake during pregnancy, is inadequate to meet the increased physiological requirements.
